Newcastle Wood Recycling is a social enterprise, launched in September 2014 by Beth Mc Donough. The project aims to divert timber from the waste stream in the North East, while creating jobs, training and volunteering opportunities for people in the local community.
They offer a waste wood collection service - a great alternative to a skip. Wood collected is reused or or recycled in the most environmentally responsible way, and sold on from their timber yard and shop for DIY material, as handmade furniture and garden products or as firewood.
Newcastle Wood Recycling are based in an old council depot in Walker, lovingly renamed the Wood Yard. The exciting new premises allow for more than just wood recycling to take place and so they hire out studio space to other makers and creators. The current residents at the Wood Yard are: Savage Angel Leather, Zanna Designs, Fada Foods, Jack McDonough Studio and the Print Room.
If you would like to find out more, pop along to the yard which is open to the public Monday - Saturday.
